Sometimes it's nice to take a peek inside the classroom doors and see what our teachers are up to. In today's 11th grade English B class, students were given a workshop in how to construct hero-journey stories based on myth-making archetypes in the Western tradition. The workshop was in preparation for a field trip on Monday to see the latest Hollywood epic, "Black Panther", which the students will deconstruct and provide commentary on in next week's lessons.
In these pictures, students are creating their own epic storylines following the "rules" of the genre. At the end of the unit, they will reflect on the hero archetype's role in culture, while studying some real world stories of war veterans. Good stuff!
