Dear Members of the IAS Community, 2013-14 is shaping up to be another wonderful school year. We are now approaching record enrollment which is most evidently due to the huge successes of last year which saw a record number of Silver Star award winners, Golden Star/Red Stripe certificates..
..and even one of our IAS Graduates, Marcin Bielinski, being accepted to Oxford and another, Agnieszka Kaczkowska, passing IB with a school high record of 42 points. She is also applying to Oxford. Overall, our graduating IB diploma scores were well above the world average. Needless to say, this academic success has propelled the school even higher in the goal for educational excellence. On top of that, IAS committees organized unforgettable events including the Wishing Tree, Science Fair and Egg Drop Competition among several others. The Student Council was also hugely successful in organizing events such as the Halloween Lock-In, Christmas Celebration, IAS participation in the TEDx Warsaw Conference and the first ever IAS Carnival, which raised money for Blessing and our charity, CARITAS.
Looking back on last year’s successes reminds me that our philosophy of constant school improvement is a never ending process. We will achieve even more this year and are always setting the standards for future IAS Graduates higher and higher. I warmly welcome all returning and incoming students and parents/guardians for what will certainly be a superb year at IAS.
Below I have outlined some of the important information for the first days of school:
Opening Ceremony/Orientation Day – Monday, September 2nd, 2013
On the first day of school, members of the administration will officially welcome you to our 24th year during our opening ceremonies. After opening remarks from the administration, homeroom teachers will meet with students and parents from their homeroom class. Teachers will distribute and review all relevant information for the school year including the student handbook, school calendar, a class schedule and a list of required materials. Teachers will also review procedures for behavior, attendance and academics, as well as answer any questions parents or students may have. New students will then be welcomed to the Kindergarten room (PreK-3rd) and the Cafeteria (4th-12th) for additional orientation. The day will end at around 12 p.m. and no classes will be held on this day.

Please Note: The only items you need to bring on the Orientation Day are 3 passport-sized photos (if you haven’t already brought them) for your child’s file and a small padlock for your child’s locker (4th-12th Grades). New students will need to pick up their student ID cards in the main office at Dembego 18. Returning students need to bring their ID cards so that they can be stamped for the current school year. New students should also bring a copy of their last school certificate.
The First Week of School
During the first week of school, teachers will be reviewing expectations, procedures, routines, required materials and class syllabi with the students. Students will be informed of the monthly themes, choose clubs, run for student council and get acquainted with the school-wide behavior plan.
We would like to kindly inform you that we will be continuing our educational agreement for parents whose children/child attend/s International American School. The above mentioned document, which should be signed by all parents, is available on the web site www.ias.edu.pl <http://www.ias.edu.pl>- enrollment (zapisy). We would kindly request all parents to fill in, print out and submit to the office one copy of the educational agreement with a photocopy of your passport/ID or residence card. If you require help with this, please come to the office.
Students will choose from a range of clubs, which will be held this year on Wednesday afternoons from 3:05 – 3:55 p.m. On Wednesdays buses will leave at 4:00 p.m. (3:45 from Dembego 12). No clubs will be held on Wednesday, September 4th and buses will leave at the normal time on this day.
Registration time will take place daily from 8:30 - 8:43 a.m (4th-12th grade). During this time, students will hear important information, have attendance taken, hold class president speeches and elections, and listen to school announcements and the IAS Radio Show.
This year we are continuing to raise money through creative fundraisers for Blessing, the deaf/disabled girl to whom we are donating funds for her education.
Parents’ Weekly Bulletin
We will continue to increase our communication with parents by sending a weekly bulletin via email to the entire IAS community informing about the following week’s schedule including field trips, parent meetings, and school wide events. Please check emails from the school every Friday afternoon to see the next week’s schedule. If you are not receiving the bulletins, please inform email@example.com. Teachers from grades PreK-3rd will also be sending a Class Newsletter via email every 2 weeks to inform parents of the exciting happenings in their classrooms.
The 2013-2014 school year will include several exciting events, performances and competitions organized by the IAS committees in conjunction with the Student Council. The committees include: language arts performance; science, math, ICT and innovation; sporting events; International/Polish crossover; school pride; year book and Green School. We are very excited about the wonderful events, trips and celebrations to be held this year.
Silver Star Award Program
We are continuing the Silver Star Award program for students whose work exceeds the expectations of their teachers. We are proud to continue the program this year to reward those students who go above and beyond the already high standards set by their teachers. When students receive 10 silver stars, they will be presented with an award from the school showing appreciation for the hard work.

Students will have the opportunity to buy new books from the school secretary in the main office and collect them using the receipt of purchase for grades PreK - 10 from Mr. Razvi Hussaini in the bookstore and for grades 11 - 12 from Mr. Uden. All books must be collected by all students by Friday, September 6th. Book store hours and price lists will be posted.
Any parents who require transport for their children should please contact Mr. Ceesay through the school. Telephone numbers of all drivers will be provided, and all pick-up times will be provided by the drivers after the route is fixed. Parents will be called about pick-up times and locations by the drivers after Orientation on the afternoon of Monday, September 2nd. Please be informed that all parents are responsible for their own child’s transport on Orientation Day, Monday, September 2nd.
The new catering company, AMO CATERING, will now be providing food service this school year. Please contact them if you wish to have this service provided for your child.
