A time of giving at IAS Action for Szlachetna Paczka

“Gifts of time and love are surely the basic ingredients of a truly merry Christmas,”- Peg Bracken

As a way to welcome the holiday season, 11th grade had decided to work together to help make a certain family’s Christmas a little brighter . Bobbi Bui, the leader of the project, found a family in need through an organization called Szlachetna Paczka. The family includes Mrs Edyta,a single mom raising two children- 16 year old Zbyszek and 8 year old Antosia. The family had once been going well but had unfortunately fallen into debt as Mrs.Edyta’s husband had turned to drugs and was eventually sent to prison. The younger son, Antosia also suffers from Perthes disease, a sterile femoral head necrosis requiring rehabilitation. Unfortunately, waiting time for the rehabilitation is very long. Thus, making it quite difficult for the mother to work.

11th grade had decided to sponsor Mrs. Edyta and as well present the donations with a festive twist.

They took a trip to Tesco and were split up into groups. Each group was assigned to purchase a specific list of items such as food, clothes, hygiene products, school supplies etc… In the end, 1400zt worth of items were purchased.  The money was gathered through the volunteers own donations, only 11th grade.

To make things more festive, the 11th graders had decided to pack all the items in gift boxes. Everyone gathered around in the school’s main lobby and had their gift wrapping skills tested during the preparation of the gift boxes. A card was placed in one of the boxes that contained Christmas greetings written in many languages along with everyone’s signatures. Final touches included the addition of paper ribbons as decorations. The final step was to deliver the packages. Early on the 9th of December, in the final of Szlachetna Paczka, a group of students gathered together and brought the donations to the organization.

The project was a major success and all participants received a certificate and feedbacks from the family and the organization.

A huge shout out to the volunteers:
