Iranian culture and history talk

On Thursday, the 9th grade received a special treat. Instead of their regular English lesson with Mr. Krasner, they participated in a seminar with Ms. Mahdieh Gholami, who is from Iran and leads talks on Iranian culture and history.

The visit was planned in coordination with the students' completion of the graphic novel "Perspepolis", which documents the trials of its author Marjane Satrap while living through the 1979 Iranian revolution. Ms. Gholami was able to offer her views on the book and her own personal experiences, helping students digest very difficult questions about politics and religion, civil rights and living abroad. Our students gained such an appreciation for Iranian culture that there was talk of plane fare, tourism and even tax rates for workers. Perhaps some future careers in Tehran?

We look forward to more guest talks such as this as we round out the year..
