Welcome letter from the Principal 2018/2019

I’d like to welcome everyone back to the IAS community and offer greetings to those new members joining us for the 2018-19 school year. As you may have heard, we have undergone a change in leadership at IAS.

Dear IAS Students, Teachers, Parents, Family and Friends:

I will be serving as Principal starting this year, taking over the position from Christopher Uden. Mr. Uden created a strong foundation for the school over the last three years and we wish him the best in his next chapter. For those who don’t know me, I have been teaching at IAS since 2006 and have served many roles since then, including Head of Faculty since 2015. I am eager to build on the foundation we have created together and to lead the school into its next evolution.

I’d like to provide you with important details regarding the school year.

Students will also choose and secure their lockers for the year.

Registration Period

Registration time will take place daily from 8:30 - 8:43am in Dembego 18 (grades 5 - 12). During this time, students will have their school attendance taken, hear news updates and school announcements, and hold class presidential speeches and elections (first 2 weeks). Lessons in Dembego 12 (PreKG - grade 4) will begin promptly at 8:30 every day.

Weekly Bulletin
We will continue our communication plan with parents by sending the weekly bulletin via email to the entire IAS community. The bulletin will inform everyone about the upcoming week’s schedule, including field trips, parent meetings and school-wide events. Please check your emails from the school every Friday afternoon to prepare for the upcoming week.  If you are not receiving the bulletins, please inform secretary@ias.edu.pl.

Calendar

The calendar for the 2018-2019 school year may be found at http://www.ias.edu.pl/en/calendar. It can also be uploaded to your electronic devices using the GoogleCal or iCal link.

After School Club/ Swietlica

The Swietlica program is available for students from PreKG - grade 4 at Dembego 12. The school will be open from 7:30 to 17:00 so that parents may have more flexibility in picking up and dropping off their child/children. The morning and after school program is provided at no extra charge to parents and will include supervised games, art projects and homework time.

Books

Students will have the opportunity to buy new books in the main office at Dembego 18. Once payments are made, students will use their receipt to collect books from the bookstore. Bookstore hours and price lists will be provided on Monday, September 3rd.

Transport

Any parents who require transport for their children should please contact Mr. Michael Ceesay through the school’s main office. Telephone numbers of all drivers will be given and all pick-up times will be provided by the drivers after the route is fixed. Parents will be called about pick-up times and locations by the drivers after orientation on the afternoon of Monday, September 3rd.

Catering

Our caterer for this academic year is Best Katering Sp. z O.O. Payments and management of meals can be completed online. More information will be available on the first day of school.

New Initiatives 2018-19

Digital Learning Policy: IAS will be incorporating more digital learning as part of its curriculum, including the use of digital textbook platforms. To support this initiative, we have created a new Digital Learning Policy, which replaces the previous Mobile Technology Policy. Details about the Digital Learning Policy will be sent in a separate letter, with emphasis on grades 5-12.

International Standardized Assessments: To bolster our teaching and learning, we are incorporating the reputable ACER ISA international assessments in English, Mathematics and Science. Students from grades 4, 7, and 10 will take part in this program, which will provide relevant benchmarks for their learning as they approach the High School and IB Diploma tracks. More information about the ACER ISA exams will be provided in a separate letter.

I think that is everything! At least enough for one letter. I look forward to seeing you on September 3rd and wish everyone a fulfilling year.

Best Regards,

Matthew Krasner
Principal
