Message from the CEO

A school where excellence is inseparable from respect

I founded the International American School of Warsaw in 1989 with the belief that a good education should go hand in hand with respect for others. Today, students from more than 40 nationalities attend IAS. Learning alongside people from different backgrounds is part of their school experience.

Our students learn from educators who bring experience of American and international curricula. We want them to leave school able to make their own decisions and contribute to the communities they join. Many IAS graduates have gone on to universities in the United States and the United Kingdom and pursued careers in a range of fields.

University preparation is an important part of our work. Throughout their time at IAS, students also develop their language skills, learn to think critically and take responsibility for how they treat others.

Message from the Principal

Education as a partnership, built on trust

Welcome to the International American School of Warsaw. We work closely with students and their families, and we value the trust they place in our teachers. In class, we encourage students to ask questions, think for themselves and take responsibility for their work.

Students learn in small classes with teachers from different countries. Our academic programmes include the American High School Diploma and the IB Diploma Programme. Extracurricular activities give students further opportunities to try something new and develop their interests.

We want students to feel at home at IAS. Making friends and learning to work through difficulties with other people are important parts of growing up at school.

Children can join IAS in Kindergarten. Please ask admissions about PreKG availability. School certificates are not required for applications at this age.

The IB Diploma Programme and the American High School Diploma run side by side. Both ask for eighteen months of Creativity, Activity and Service. The SAT is sat on campus.

Why choose IAS

Why families choose IAS

International and American diplomas

IAS teaches the American diploma and the IB. Families choose at the end of Grade 10 and both run in the same timetable.

A diverse community

Our community includes more than 40 nationalities. Many students speak another language at home. English as an Additional Language support is available for those who need it.

An individualised approach

Teaching is planned around each student’s needs and abilities. The student to teacher ratio is 7:1.

An engaging curriculum

Students complete practical work and discuss what they have learned. Lessons also give them practice in explaining their ideas and considering different answers.

A mindfulness programme

An after-school programme that helps students practise concentration and pay attention to their wellbeing.

Recognition

Accreditations and recognition

IAS has IB Diploma Programme authorisation, Cognia accreditation and recognition from the Polish Ministry of Education. The requirements for university entry depend on the qualification and the university.

International Baccalaureate

IAS has been authorised to offer the IB Diploma Programme since May 2006. Our IB school code is 003087. We are a candidate school for the Middle Years Programme.

The American High School Diploma, accredited across Kindergarten to Grade 12. IAS is also an official SAT test centre, on campus.

American Diploma · KG to Grade 12

Polish Ministry of Education

Legal equivalence in Poland, recognition by Polish universities, and an optional Polish track alongside the American or IB route.

The youngest children on the school stage

PreKG and KG

Early Years

Ages 4.5 to 6 · Dembego 12

Kindergarten is where most children start. A PreKG group opens whenever enough families want one, so it is worth asking. Apply with no certificates; children do need to be potty trained.

Both tracks sit in the same timetable and use the same course groupings. They differ in the number of subjects and in what is required alongside them.

IBDP

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

Six subjects from the established IBO groupings.
Three taken at Higher Level, with additional classroom hours. Three at Standard Level.
Theory of Knowledge, obligatory.
An 18 month programme in Creativity, Activity and Service.
An Extended Essay of 4,000 words.

HSDP

American High School Diploma

The same curriculum as their IBO counterparts.
Five subjects, two of them at Higher Level.
An 18 month programme in Creativity, Activity and Service.
An obligatory SAT preparatory course, with the SAT sat on campus.

What is on the timetable

Shared by both diploma tracks. Additional mother tongue languages are supported on parental request. Chinese is taught in the upper high school, where demand for it is highest.

The rest of the day

Support during the school day

Read about English language support, after-school clubs, and the nurse and counsellor.

English as an Additional Language

For students who arrive without the English to follow every lesson yet. An interview and an assessment first, then a group of peers at the same level, CEFR A1 to B1+. Groups run to eight at most. B2 opens the full curriculum.

After school clubs

Teachers run clubs that bring students from different year groups together. The programme changes each year. Recent clubs have included Math Mentor, Art, Board Games, Drama, Football and Music.

The nurse

On duty every day, in the medical office on the top floor, left of the stairs. The nurse keeps every student’s medical records and tells parents when a vaccination is due.

The counsellor

Available every day. Any student can go without being sent, and the counsellor also handles developmental and psychological concerns.

Catering

At Dembego 12 the youngest children get breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack. At Dembego 18 there is a choice of lunches. High school students may eat at local restaurants, and middle school students may too with a parent’s permission.

Transport

A dedicated door to door service, run for 2026/2027 with Little Monsters, a Warsaw company that runs school transport. Routes are drawn from the addresses of the families who sign up, so tell the office early if you want a seat.

Admissions

How to apply

Applications are open for 2026/2027 and 2027/2028. Follow the steps below to apply.

Fill in the application form

Online at ias.edu.pl. If a current IAS family referred you, include their name on your application. Referrals must be recorded at first contact to qualify for the credit.

Send the documents

Transcripts, certificates, reports, medical records and three passport photographs, to [email protected].

Application review

The Admissions Office reviews the application and comes back with a decision.

Sign the educational agreement

From admissions.ias.edu.pl. Sign, scan and return it, or complete it in person at the main office.

Pay the enrollment fee

4,000 PLN reserves the place. Bank details are at fees.ias.edu.pl. Then the welcome letter arrives.

Things worth knowing before you start

Kindergarten

No certificates needed. KG applicants need to be potty trained.

From Grade 2 up

Send transcripts covering the last two school years.

Joining after September

Transfer students should send their current grades as well.

EAL

If your child needs the English programme, say so to the administration at application.

The Polish track

For KG to Grade 8, confirm the MEN programme in writing.

Grade 10 and above

Name the programme you are applying for: the IB Diploma or the American High School Diploma.

Fees

Annual tuition, 2026 / 2027

The amounts below are annual tuition fees for 2026/2027.

Two terms, ten monthly instalments, due by the 10th. No payment in July or August.

The enrollment fee

4,000 PLN a year, non refundable and non deductible. It guarantees the placement.

A waiting list place is 3,500 PLN per term.

Tuition discounts

2% for every year a student stays at IAS.
5% for a second child, 10% for a third, 15% for a fourth.
6% if the year is paid in full before 15 August.

They do not add together. A family chooses the one it is eligible for. Paying after the 10th forfeits that month's discount permanently.

Recommending a family

A current IAS family who recommends a different, new family receives 2,000 PLN of tuition credit against the following year, once the child is enrolled and the registration fee is paid.

This is not the sibling discount. The referred family must name the referring parent at first contact, on the application form.

The fee includes

Full time education 08:30 to 15:10, Monday to Friday, with Wednesdays extended by club hours. Lower Elementary is open 08:00 to 17:00.
The American and Polish diplomas, and the IB Diploma Programme.
The MYP, including the Personal Project in Grade 10.
Pastoral care from the counsellor, and on site medical care.
Sport, including indoor, outdoor and swimming.
Course and university counselling.
Loaned textbooks, workbooks and subscriptions such as ManageBac.

The fee excludes

IB examination and apostille fees, for Grades 11 and 12.
School trips in Warsaw, around Poland and abroad.
Pamoja online subject courses.
The EAL programme, at 3,500 PLN per term, for students who need it.

Paying

Ten monthly instalments, due by the 10th of the month. Families joining mid year have the fee divided from the point they join.

On a bank transfer, state the student name, the grade and the reason, for example "John Smith, 9th Grade, Enrollment Fee". Account details are at fees.ias.edu.pl.

Fees may be adjusted yearly. The payments office sends the final calculation for your family.
