Founded in 1989 as one of the first international schools in Warsaw, the International American School offers a K-12 education that meets both local and international standards in an environment of openness, multiculturalism and achievement. The IAS community promotes a culture of respect, joy of learning, challenge and cooperation.
Our guiding mission focuses on attaining the best academic results for our students while fostering the development of dynamic, considerate and responsible world citizens. We are located in Warsaw’s Kabaty district in a progressive neighborhood just a stroll away from the Kabaty forest reserve. Our school curriculum reflects the location of our school – nature and progress in balance, a vision towards growth, and a quiet space for reflection.
IAS is actively engaged in the international school community as a certified IB World School and member of the AdvancED educational network. We also are recognized by the Polish Ministry of Education and additionally serve as an SAT exam center. Our educational path is aligned for all grade levels from Elementary and Middle Schools to High School.
Our school philosophy is as simple as it is challenging: work together, grow together. We see ourselves as a partner for our students and their families, and learn from each other in an atmosphere of mutual respect and inspiration. We strive to motivate one another for the goals of individual and collective development. The school’s educational aims are reflected upon regularly and based upon shared values of understanding, critical thought, creativity, tolerance, communication, responsibility and integrity.
IAS LIVES BY ITS MISSION STATEMENT
The IAS school philosophy is as simple as it is challenging: work together, grow together.
We also recognize our function as an international school in Poland, providing tools for our students to gain the necessary linguistic and cognitive skills to succeed in today’s global society. Progress towards fluency in English is emphasized with a rigorous academic program and English as Second Language (ESL) support for those in need. Speakers are brought in from a variety of fields to spark interest in directions and make classroom learning more relevant. The curriculum emphasizes reflective and experiential learning as instructional strategies, and is designed to give families the choice between standards based International and Polish diplomas.
The administration and faculty at IAS are drawn from educational communities around the globe, representing over 10 nationalities. Teachers pass on the desire to learn within a structure that values personal responsibility and self worth. The parent community is regularly engaged with the staff through scheduled meetings and weekly bulletins.
IAS is aware of the challenges and opportunities presented by technology, both as a learning tool and source of distraction. We incorporate educational platforms like Librus and ManageBac to help students organize their coursework and communicate with teachers in a familiar forum. We also strive to develop students’ awareness of their own thinking processes and towards this end offer an after school Mindfulness program. This movement in education provides students practical exercises to train their attention, build concentration and become more grounded.
IAS is interested working together with staff, students and parents to find the balance between assessed achievement and nurturing experience. Our mission is to help students realize themselves and make a meaningful contribution to society.
