Why families choose IAS

When choosing a school, families ask about the teaching, support and options available to their child. Here is what IAS offers.

A choice of diploma routes

Three diploma routes run under one roof: the IB Diploma, the American High School Diploma accredited by Cognia, and the Polish Matura. A student can change direction in Grade 10 without changing school, as their plans develop.

University entry requirements vary by course and country. The school holds accreditation from the International Baccalaureate Organization, from Cognia, and from the Polish Ministry of Education. That combination is why a Matura and an IB Diploma can be taken in the same building.

Small enough that a teacher knows the child

The ratio is about seven students to one teacher, and classes are kept small, smaller still in the youngest years. Class sizes vary by year group and intake. Small classes give teachers time to check understanding and provide individual feedback.

Thirty seven years of international families

IAS opened in 1989 as the first private American school in post-communist Poland, and has taught internationally mobile families ever since. Teachers are recruited internationally, are native English speakers, and most of them stay for years.

English is the language of instruction, with Polish, French and Spanish also taught. Students come from more than forty countries, from diplomatic, business and Polish families alike, so a new arrival is not the only new arrival.

One school, every age

From the youngest years through Grade 12, students share one school. Older students mentor younger ones and families know each other, through activities across the year groups.

What happens next is planned for

College counselling begins in Grade 9, IB Diploma preparation runs through the senior years, and there is an official SAT test centre on campus, so students sit the test where they study. Progress is tracked through Toddle and Vulcan, so a parent can see how a term is going without waiting for a report to arrive.

Getting here

The campus is in Ursynów on the edge of the Kabaty forest, five minutes on foot from Metro Kabaty. Most families reach it without a car, and many older students travel in alone.
