Message from Principal
Dear IAS Community,
It was inspiring to meet with the candidates for School President over the last two days. They had the fantastic opportunity to connect with students from 2nd through 12th grade.
The election will be held this Monday during period three. All students (2nd-12th grade) will have the chance to vote for their chosen candidate. We aim to announce the full results to all students via Teams by the end of the day Monday.
Next week, we also have some exciting community-building activities planned. This is a wonderful annual opportunity for each homeroom to connect and get to know each other better.
We encourage everyone to participate and make your voices heard! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Clubs
D12 Wednesday Clubs
This year at D12, the teachers have prepared classic and engaging clubs that the whole school enjoys. In order to give the students a full and varied extracurricular experience, we have the classes (KG-G4) rotate between the offered clubs. For example, one week they’ll have Yoga Club, and the next they’ll meet with Drawing Club. Teachers in charge of the clubs make changes from week to week to better accommodate student abilities and interests; this makes for a unique club experience each and every week!
Craft Club: In the Craft Club students will be guided through the artistic process from conception to planning, visualization, execution, and reflection. The students will work alongside each other using a variety of mediums to create unique projects they can proudly display!
Tales Club: Go on trips around the world exploring tales from different cultures and geographies. In the stories club we shall journey through space and time to picture the scenes with our vivid imagination and growing intelligence. Stories intrigue children to dive deep into history, literature and all sciences.
Yoga Club: Yoga classes promote flexibility, focus, and relaxation. Tailored for young minds, each session combines playful poses with mindfulness, helping kids build strength, confidence, and a sense of calm. The fun and engaging approach ensures an enjoyable experience that keeps the kids excited and motivated.
Art Project Club: In our drawing classes students will learn how to draw by step, exploring different themes like seasons, holidays and fun topics. They will start with simple shapes and lines. As they practice, they will draw things like autumn leaves, winter scenes, animals building their skills and creativity.
D18 Wednesday Clubs
Clubs begin on September 17, 2024. Clubs are held weekly on Wednesdays from 15:15-16:00 for grades K-10. As we want our students to be able to explore ideas and activities outside of traditional academics, we strongly encourage all students to participate in at least one club. Generally, we treat Wednesday afternoons from 15:15- 16:00 as an additional lesson block for this purpose and bus schedules are adjusted accordingly to accommodate this.
STEAM: A STEAM club is a fun group where kids explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics through hands-on activities and projects. Imagine building robots, creating cool art with technology, or solving puzzles and experiments. It’s a place where you can be creative, think critically, and work with friends on exciting challenges. The club helps you learn new things while having a great time!
Chess Club: Our chess club is a fun and friendly group where you’ll learn to play the world’s most popular board game. Imagine becoming a grandmaster, learning how to plan your moves, and outsmarting your opponents. It’s a place where you can be a creative thinker, develop your focus, and work with friends to solve exciting challenges on the board. The club helps you become a better strategist while having a great time!
8th Grade Exam Prep: Get exam-ready with confidence! Our after-school club helps 8th graders sharpen their skills in Mathematics and Polish Language & Literature. Through focused practice, proven techniques, and supportive guidance, students will strengthen what they know, close learning gaps, and learn how to tackle tricky questions with ease. Join us to unlock your full potential and walk into your exams prepared and confident!
French Culture Club: Join our club where we embark on a musical journey through the French-speaking world! We will listen to and explore music from different francophone countries.
IAS Times: Ever wonder what those photos are on the staircase wall at D18? They’re past issues of our school’s student-written magazine, the IAS Times! Come to the club, join the writing team and create something special! Unity in creativity is the key to success, and we will make it happen!
Football Wednesday Club: Join this club to play football for fun! Play with your friends, learn the game, improve your skills, and make new friends in a supportive, low-pressure setting. Imagine kicking the ball with your peers, scoring a goal, and celebrating together. Our focus is on teamwork and sportsmanship, not just winning. It’s a great place to get active and fall in love with the game!
Performing Arts Club: On Wednesday, September 17th, we are holding the auditions for this year’s play. After that, the club will meet with the cast for rehearsals. During rehearsals, students will practice their lines, as well as, learn how to develop and convey the emotions of their character. Students working backstage on sets, costumes, sound effects and lighting, will also meet during this time. Closer to the date of the show, we are going to have rehearsals twice a week, and go to the theatre for dress rehearsal.
Access to eRegister (Vulcan)
The rollout of our new eRegister system is continuing. On Monday of next week students from grades 5-12 will receive their logins. In the following week parents will be emailed their access codes.

News
4th Grade Science
The 4th graders completed their first science lab. The goal was to get Fred the worm into his life preserver and then into his capsized boat without using their hands to touch any of the above-mentioned objects.
Only their brains and a couple of paper clips! The fourth graders had a blast, completed their first of many lab reports and I’m proud to say all three Fred’s are safe and sound!
Student Council President Debates
The student body was treated to an engaging and thoughtful presidential debate on Friday, September 12th. Candidates Aysha and Ola, and Daria and Anastasiia, presented their visions for the school year in front of audiences from grades 5-12. The event was a fantastic demonstration of student leadership and civic engagement.
Students from across the grades posed great questions to the teams, covering important topics such as school events, community spirit, and how to represent the student voice effectively. Both teams responded with well-considered ideas and genuine enthusiasm, making it a compelling and informative event for all who attended.
With such strong platforms presented, the race is incredibly close. We are excited to see what the results will be on Monday when the entire student body from grades 2-12 casts their votes during period three. Good luck to all the candidates
