English as an Additional Language
Helping students who are new to English find their voice and reach the level they need to thrive at IAS.
Our English as an Additional Language programme helps non-native speakers fast-track their English. We welcome students of all levels. The journey starts with an interview and assessment by the EAL Programme Coordinator, and each student joins a group of peers at a similar level, from CEFR A1 to B1+. Students need B2 or higher to access the full IAS curriculum.
Built around the four skills
The programme strengthens academic English in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, the foundations students need across every subject.
More than grammar
Lessons also cover English-speaking culture alongside clear, explicit grammar and vocabulary teaching.
Small groups, quick progress
Skilled instructors spend five to six lessons a week with each group, generally no larger than eight students, so every voice is heard and progress comes faster.
Working alongside every teacher
Because the support is intensive, EAL students may step back from other language classes while they build their English. Our instructors act as advocates for English Language Learners and work closely with subject teachers, sharing the tools and advice that help every student succeed.
