International Baccalaureate Organization

Students in the IBDP choose six subjects from established IBO groupings in addition to the obligatory course in Theory of Knowledge (TOK).

The International Baccalaureate is an internationally acclaimed pre-university diploma program. The IB is designed to provide students with a very broad knowledge base and the best possible skills with which to enter university. As such, it is a very rigorous and demanding program for which pupils have to prove that they are successful in different academic disciplines.

The IB diploma program is organized on a block schedule. Students take 6 subjects per semester plus Theory of Knowledge (TOK). 3 subjects are taken at the Higher Level (HL) and three at the Standard Level (SL). Each HL class consists of three 90 minute block lessons a week and SL classes are two 90 minute blocks a week. The Theory of Knowledge class is a one 90 minute block lesson once a week. IB students must also complete 150 Hours of Creativity, Action and Service during their 11th and 12th grade years as well as an extended essay of 4,000 words.

All subjects at IAS are offered in SL and HL, except TOK. These are the subjects offered: English A, English B, Polish, French, German, History, Geography, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Math, Math Studies and Theory of Knowledge.

The IB Diploma is accepted at universities around the world. More information about the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program can be found at http://www.ibo.org/.

Three of the chosen courses are selected as Higher Level (HL) and have additional classroom hours. The remaining three are studied at the Standard Level (SL). IBDP students must complete an 18 month program in Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) and an Extended Essay of 4,000 words.

Students in the HSDP follow the same curriculum as their IBO counterparts. They however choose five subjects, two of which are selected at the HL level. They must complete an 18 month program in Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) and an Extended Essay of 2,000- 2,500 words. HSDP students must also complete an obligatory inter-disciplinary course equivalent to the TOK course.
