MYP Candidacy Announcement

Dear students and parents,

We are delighted to announce that the board has initiated the candidacy process to become an IB Middle Years Program (MYP) school. It is envisioned that the MYP will be introduced to IAS over the course of a two-year trial period.

Our current international curriculum draws on elements of the Common Core, Polish, Cambridge, and other international programs to build our G6-G10 curriculum. IAS has implemented an in-house curriculum since its foundation and is very proud of what has been achieved. However, in our opinion, the MYP can satisfy the requirements of the existing program while providing students with a more complete picture of their academic progress. IAS Warsaw is an independent school that will benefit greatly from the application of the accumulated experience of MYP schools worldwide.

The MYP is designed for students aged 11 to 16 and serves as a bridge between K-5 and the IB Diploma Programme (DP) in Grades 11-12. It emphasizes intellectual challenge and encourages students to make connections between their studies and the real world. This program not only aligns with our educational philosophy but also enriches our existing curriculum by fostering critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and a lifelong love of learning. An experienced MYP educator has been employed to coordinate the program. We will introduce this new administrator in due course.

Key Features of the MYP:

Holistic Learning: The MYP promotes interdisciplinary learning, helping students see the relationships between subjects and the world around them.

Global Contexts: Students explore content through global contexts, fostering an awareness of their role as global citizens.

Approaches to Learning: The program focuses on developing skills such as critical thinking, communication, and collaboration, essential for success in higher education and beyond.

Community and Service: Students engage in community service projects, developing empathy and a sense of responsibility.

Assessment: The MYP uses a variety of assessment strategies to help students understand their progress and provide feedback for growth.

To facilitate a smooth transition, we will be holding informational sessions for parents and students over the coming months. These sessions will provide a comprehensive overview of the MYP framework, its benefits, and what it means for your child’s education and an opportunity to meet with the new MYP coordinator. The first meeting for parents of students who start Grades 6 – 10 in September will be on Wednesday June 19 at 16:30 in Dembego 18.

We believe that the introduction of the MYP will enhance our students’ educational experience, providing them with the tools to succeed academically and personally. We are committed to maintaining open communication throughout this process and welcome any questions or feedback you may have.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education. Together, we can ensure that our students are well-prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities of the future.

Warm regards,
IAS Administration
