News/Items:

Staff training

The previously postponed staff professional development session is now scheduled for Friday, April 22. On this day, all lessons and Swietlica will be cancelled after lunch to allow all staff to participate in a series of trainings throughout the afternoon. All students must be collected from school by 12:30.

Egg Day (D18)

The return of egg day at d18 promises to be a fun filled day of eggciting activities! Students should wear sports clothing that day and bring their own lunch and snacks as there will be no opportunity to go to shops during the day. This is another house competition!

New school counselor

IAS is happy to welcome Mr. Lukasz Matera, our new counselor. Mr. Matera is here to support our students with learning difficulties, as well as behavioral and emotional issues. On top of that, he is a very skilled Irish dancer and he prepared some fun dance workshops for the Dembego 12 students! Thank you, Mr. Lukasz and we wish you a wonderful time working at IAS!

Student of the month (D18)

Jan Szyksznia – Grade 5

We are so happy to have Jan at IAS this year. From the very beginning, he has actively taken part in lessons. Right away he became very comfortable in this English-speaking environment and has never been afraid to take risks when speaking or writing. His teachers appreciate his contributions to class discussions and his eagerness to learn is infectious! Additionally, he should be recognized for his ability to balance his schoolwork and extra curriculars. He trains and frequently competes in regattas.

Alibi Zhomart – Grade 9A

Alibi has been recognized this month because of the huge amount of effort put into everything he has attempted. He is confident and isn’t afraid to speak in front of the class and explore new ideas. One of the things that has made Alibi stand out is his willingness to seek clarification – he’ll always ask questions and always wants to know more.

Learners of the month – Communicators (D12)

Chess tournament

The first games of our chess tournament took place on Wednesday April 6th. We are happy to see equal engagement from participants of many different grades. Today (Friday), as the third day of the tournament comes to an end, we can distinguish a few of the highest-scoring players. Levi and Bruno maintain their leading position with over 5 games won, together with two of the event’s organizers Yegor and Meylis. Mary (the third event organizer) on the other hand is determined to break her incomprehensible losing streak. The tournament will continue after the weekend and we are excited to see the players’ progress!

IASxTalks

We are delighted to announce a new club is being formed, led by Milena Dederko (co-president) and Aleksandra Iwanczak of 11th grade and supervised by Ethan Ruby

Their goal is to invite TEDx to have a talk at IAS and one of the application requirements is for us to have our own speech and current events club at school. They have already held their introductory meeting but are still welcoming any additional interested members. The focus for meetings will be speechwriting and public speaking practice in a low stress environment.

Anyone 8th grade and above is invited to come along to Room 13 on Thursdays at 15:20 if they would like to learn more

Anyone with questions can write to Milena, Aleksandra, or Mr. Ruby
