IAS Bulletin 09 – 13 September, 2024

Message from Principal

Dear Community,

I have been really impressed by how much energy our teachers and students have entered this first week of the school year. True we are all feeling the Friday tiredness but the level of positivity I have felt throughout both buildings today has been truly amazing. We are very excited to have two teams running for election as school Presidents this year:

  • Greta and Antonia
  • Prince and Tomek

Their campaigning will begin next week and will last up until the day of the voting – Friday 20th September. In this bulletin I have invited both running teams to write a short introduction to the school community.

In this bulletin you will also find a number of important announcements related to the start of the school year and some important reminders. Please do read through these to make use that you are up to date with the latest happenings in school.

Wishing you all a restful weekend!

Christopher Uden, Principal

Announcements

Candidates for IAS Presidents – Greta and Antonia

Hi, our names are Greta and Antonia, and we are this year’s new 11th graders, running as candidates for student body presidents. We’ve both spent quite some time in this school already, with Antonia here for 6 years and Greta for 5, which means we’ve seen the successes and challenges of past student presidents. Over the summer, we’ve gathered ideas to improve this year’s student experience by finding new ways to engage. We aim to foster two-way communication, where we actively listen to your opinions and feedback, creating a school environment where everyone wants to participate and enjoy school activities. We really hope to gain your support and allow us to help make this school year a memorable one!

Message from Prince and Tomek

We are Prince Kewlani and Quang Nguyen, and we are running for the position of presidents. We have been here for the past 11 years, and we have heard many problems and complaints from students. Together, we are committed to making positive changes and representing the voice of every class. We are planning exciting events such as the Inter-school Football Tournament, as well to find ways to improve your academic abilities. With your support, we can make a positive impact on your experience, both in a thrilling and scholastic way.

Student ID Cards

Due to changes introduced by the Ministry of Education in Poland, the system for issuing student ID cards has been updated. From now on, student IDs will be issued in a plastic format, rather than paper. We are currently awaiting the delivery of the printer, so the new ID cards will be issued starting around the third week of September.

Students at our school who have paper IDs can receive a stamp extending the validity of their IDs at the school office.

Dembego 12 Message

We are delighted to welcome our students back to D12 for another exciting academic year. We remain committed to providing a supportive and engaging learning environment for our students. Throughout the school year, your children will partake in many enriching experiences that will enhance their academic abilities, heighten their love of learning, and strengthen their social-emotional skills.

We encourage you to stay connected with your child’s homeroom teacher. Your involvement plays a crucial role in supporting their success.

We could not be more thrilled to welcome two new, enthusiastic educators to D12: Miss Celine Rafferty and Miss Julia Anderko. Miss Celine Rafferty is originally from New Jersey, USA, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Teaching. She worked for many years at an American Montessori preschool in New Jersey and is excited to teach first grade at IAS this year! Miss Julia Anderko is also originally from New Jersey, USA. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and has been teaching for seven years. Miss Julia is delighted to be our third grade teacher.

Miss Celine and Miss Julia join a committed, dedicated, well-trained, and enthusiastic team of teachers at D12.

We look forward to a wonderful year of learning, growth, and discovery at D12!

Dembego 18 Phone Policy

Students can use their mobile phones only during the longer breaks (10 and 15 minutes) and the 45-minute lunch break. They are not to use them during class, unless otherwise instructed by a teacher, and on the short 5-minute breaks. It should be stored in the storage unit at the front of the classroom (or it can be secured in their locker). After two interventions of inappropriate phone use, the student loses access to their phone for two months as per the policy. The phone policy has numerous benefits to students. Students should use their short breaks wisely to get their materials from their locker, use the toilet, get water, etc. This way the lessons can have minimal interruptions and can begin on time. I hope you will support our initiative to have students focus on learning and preparing for their lessons to maximize the overall learning experience.

Religious Education Lessons

We would like to ask for your opinion regarding Catholic religion classes conducted in Polish. To help us organize the lessons effectively, we kindly request that you confirm your interest by clicking on the link below.

Please note that the deadline to express your interest is Thursday, 12th September. It is important that we receive your response by this date to ensure the lessons can be organized. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact the school office.

Zwracamy się z prośbą o wyrażenie opinii na temat zajęć z religii katolickiej prowadzonych w języku polskim. Aby pomóc nam w organizacji tych lekcji, uprzejmie prosimy o potwierdzenie zainteresowania poprzez wypełnienie ankiety. Prosimy o przesłanie odpowiedzi do czwartku, 12 września. Państwa opinia jest dla nas niezwykle ważna, abyśmy mogli jak najlepiej zorganizować proces edukacyjny w naszej szkole. W razie pytań prosimy o kontakt z sekretariatem szkoły.

Clubs Information: Clubs begin on September 11, 2024. Clubs are held weekly on Wednesdays from 15:15-16:00 for grades K-10. As we want our students to be able to explore ideas and activities outside of traditional academics, we strongly encourage all students to participate in at least one club. Generally, we treat Wednesday afternoons from 15:15- 16:00 as an additional lesson block for this purpose and bus schedules are adjusted accordingly to accommodate this. Should students in G5-10 have alternative activities during this time, parents are asked to complete this exemption form: D18 Club Exemption Form_Aug 2024.docx
