IAS Warsaw graduates celebrating at the Class of 2024 graduation

High School

The years that prepare students for university and for life, with the support to grow as people, not just as scholars.

High school at International American School runs from 9th to 12th grade. In 10th grade students make important choices about the path they will follow, and the final two years focus on completing the International Baccalaureate, the American High School Diploma, or the Polish Matura.

Three diploma pathways

IAS is the rare school in Warsaw where a student can graduate with more than one diploma. In the senior years students follow one or more of three internationally respected pathways, chosen to fit where they want to study next.

IB

International Baccalaureate Diploma

A globally recognised two-year programme in Grades 11 and 12. Students study across six subject groups and complete the IB core: Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, Service. Known for both breadth and depth, the IB Diploma is accepted by universities worldwide and travels well for families who may move again.

US

American High School Diploma

Built on credits and grade point average and accredited by Cognia, with Advanced Placement courses for students ready for university-level work. It is familiar to families heading to or arriving from the United States and is recognised by universities far beyond it.

PL

Polish Matura

The Polish national examination, recognised by the Polish Ministry of Education and the route to direct admission at Polish universities. It keeps the door open for students who may continue their studies in Poland.

The Triple Diploma advantage

Because IAS is accredited for all three pathways, a single student can graduate holding the IB Diploma, an American Diploma and the Polish Matura together. Few schools in Warsaw can offer that. It means a family does not have to commit to one university system at the age of fourteen, and a student keeps options open across Poland, the United States, the United Kingdom, the rest of Europe and beyond.

More than academics

A rigorous curriculum

Challenging and rewarding in equal measure, with a well-rounded programme that looks beyond academics to the whole student.

Life beyond lessons

Clubs, athletic teams, music and theatre, and community service give students room to lead, pursue passions, and make lasting friendships.

Support that follows through

Guidance counselling, tutoring, and academic advising mean our staff are committed to each student’s success, in school and out.

Ages by grade

Grade Age
Grade 9 14 to 15
Grade 10 15 to 16
Grade 11 16 to 17
Grade 12 17 to 18

Placement depends on a student’s age at enrolment alongside language skills, prior academic background and any additional needs.

Guidance toward university

Choosing subjects, preparing for exams and applying to universities is a lot to navigate. Our college counselling team works one to one with students and families on course choices, applications and deadlines, for universities in Poland and abroad. Our graduates go on to study across Poland, Europe, the United Kingdom, North America and beyond, carrying with them the academic rigour, real relationships and personal growth that define high school life here.
