Athletics and sports

Physical education, swimming, and competitive teams that build a love of movement and a healthy lifestyle in every student.

From PE at state-of-the-art facilities to swimming lessons and competitive school teams, sport is woven through the school year at IAS, with skilled coaches and small groups at every level.

Physical education

The International American School uses the state-of-the-art SGGW sport facilities for all PE classes, located just a 5-minute drive from the school. Physical education is offered to students from KG to 10th grade, with PreKG students taking PE at Small School. Classes last approximately one hour and, from 4th grade, are taught by two teachers, one for boys and one for girls.

The facility is equipped for team sports such as football, tennis, basketball, volleyball, indoor hockey, and handball. The gym also includes gymnastics mattresses, a jumping box, and a pommel horse to improve students’ agility, flexibility, and skills. In Small School, students enjoy games, relays, races, and mini games that make sport enjoyable before moving on to more technical exercises, instilling a love for physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.

Swimming

The school makes use of the SGGW swimming pool and the Aqua Relaks center (USCIR pool) for swimming lessons. These lessons are available to students from PreKG to 6th grade and last approximately one hour. Students of all skill levels, from non-swimmers to advanced swimmers, are taught by two teachers to ensure good skill and technique development, and several lifeguards are on duty at all times for safety.

Lessons cover a range of skills, from floating exercises, backstroke, crawl, and breaststroke to butterfly for advanced swimmers. Students also learn how to jump, flip, and dive, and practise underwater skills using sinking toys. To improve technique, beginner and advanced swimmers use different aids, such as boards, pipes, and flippers, during lessons.

IAS sports teams

Students can join our IAS Football and Basketball teams. These teams train together and compete with other public and private international schools in Warsaw and around Poland throughout the year.
