Moving to Warsaw with children: school and practical arrangements

School places, language support, documents and the daily journey: a guide for families moving to Warsaw.

Moving to Warsaw with children: school and practical arrangements

If you are moving to Warsaw with children, you can contact schools before you have a Polish address or a final moving date. Start with your child’s age, current school programme and likely arrival date. The admissions team can then check the relevant grade and explain the next steps.

Finding a school and a place to live

Look at school places and housing together. Check the journey from a possible home to school during the morning rush hour, including walks and changes if you plan to use public transport.

IAS is on Ursynów, near Metro Kabaty and the Kabaty forest. Families also travel from Mokotów, Wilanów, Konstancin and other areas. Travel time varies by address. Ask about the school bus route and availability for your location.

Comparing programmes

Check the curriculum your child would follow, the subjects they have already studied and the qualifications offered in the final years. Ask how the school handles a transfer between programmes, particularly close to final examinations.

Compare class sizes, teaching, language support, facilities and activities. Ask for the full fee schedule, including registration, meals, transport, examinations and any additional support charges.

Starting in a new language

At IAS, the EAL team assesses a student’s English and discusses support available for their grade. Ask about lesson frequency, group size, timetable changes and fees. You can also discuss how the class teacher helps new pupils settle in.

Documents and formalities

Ask the receiving school for its document list before arranging translations. School records help establish the appropriate grade and any differences in the curriculum. Tell admissions about existing learning support so that available help can be discussed before enrolment.

Residence formalities and health insurance depend on your circumstances. Check requirements with the relevant public authority or your employer’s relocation team. School admissions can explain which documents the school itself needs.

Applying during the school year

IAS accepts applications throughout the year, subject to places and programme requirements. Send your child’s grade, school records and expected start date to [email protected]. The team will explain the assessment, documents and steps needed to confirm a place.

We welcome families already living in Warsaw as well as those arriving from abroad. To arrange a visit or discuss an application, call +48 22 649 14 40.
