Lessons at IAS start at 08:30, and the main school day ends at 15:10 in both of our buildings in Ursynów. After that, clubs run every afternoon from Monday to Friday, and Dembego 12, the building for the youngest children, stays open with after-school care until 17:00. Below is how a day looks at each stage, from Circle Time in Grade 1 to a double lesson of IB Chemistry in Grade 12, taken from the 2026/2027 timetable as it stands in October 2026.

Getting to school
Besides the car, there are two ways in. Kabaty metro station, at the southern end of line 1, is a five-minute walk away. Many older students travel on their own. The school bus is run with Little Monsters, a company that specialises in transporting children: it collects as close to home as the route allows, on routes drawn up each year around where families live, parents can follow it in real time, and because the bus is not part of tuition, families sign the contract and agree the price with Little Monsters directly.
Dembego 12 opens at 07:45. That gives three quarters of an hour before the first lesson.
Pre-KG and Kindergarten
The day opens with Circle Time, the daily class meeting of music, stories and talking together as a group, and Jolly Phonics, the method used for early reading, comes back in short activities through the rest of the day. Activities are kept short to suit the age group.
The rest is practical. Language units in English, early mathematics, science, art, music and physical education are taught through things children can touch, move, listen to and watch, and the timetable includes time to play and time to rest. Children eat at school. The youngest have breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack as one daily set, which families order from the caterer.
Kindergarten takes children from four and a half to six, at every level of English, including none. Teaching is in English. A child who needs it gets EAL support (English as an Additional Language), which is paid and depends on the child's level. You can read more about our Kindergarten at Dembego 12.
Grades 1 to 5
In Elementary, children stay in their homeroom and the teachers come to them. A day has seven lessons of about 45 minutes, a twenty-minute break in the morning and a lunch break around midday, and Grade 1 still begins four mornings a week with Circle Time.
In Grades 1 to 3 one class teacher takes most of the week, and from Grade 4 mathematics, English and science appear on the timetable as separate subjects. Polish is taught several times a week. From Grade 3, children learning Polish as a second language have their own group. Music, art, PE and, from Grade 2, ICT fill the rest. Every class from Grade 1 to Grade 6 also swims, in one double lesson a week.
Lunch is at school. That holds for every pupil from KG to Grade 8, whether the meal is ordered from the caterer or brought from home. The Elementary School page has the full list of subjects.
Grades 6 to 8: Middle School
Grade 6 means a new building. At Dembego 18 each subject has its own specialist teacher, and lessons use the ICT lab, the art centre and the science laboratory. Phones are handed in at the start of the day. In the first week every student gets the school's own yearly planner, writes homework and deadlines in it, and the homeroom teacher helps them use it.
The Middle School timetable includes Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, mathematics, humanities, science, design, visual art and physical education, with Polish and world languages alongside, and IAS is a candidate school for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), aligning its teaching with the MYP framework. Students in the EAL programme do not take Polish, French or German. Their intensive English support runs in those periods. More on the Middle School page.
Grades 9 and 10
High school starts in the same building. Science splits into biology, chemistry and physics, Grade 9 mathematics is taught in core and extended groups, and the week also holds history, geography, business studies, design, English, Polish, and French or Spanish. College counselling begins in Grade 9.
Grade 10 is the Pre-IB year. Each student discusses subject choices and the diploma route with a counsellor before the last two years, which lead to the IB Diploma, the American High School Diploma or the Polish Matura. A student who completes the requirements of each programme can earn all three.
Grades 11 and 12: the IB Diploma years
For IB Diploma students the timetable changes shape. Most IB subjects meet in double lessons, two periods back to back, at Higher or Standard Level, and Theory of Knowledge has its own place in the week. Students also write the Extended Essay and take part in CAS (creativity, activity, service), the other two parts of the IB core. The week looks different on the American Diploma or the Polish Matura route, and admissions can explain how.
Some days look nothing like the timetable. On 15 and 16 October 2026, physics, chemistry and biology students spent two days on the IB Collaborative Science Project: the chemistry team compared salt-and-ice mixtures, the physics team tested five insulated packages, and the biology team checked whether an enzyme extract was still active after a simulated delivery with no power for cooling. A week later, Grades 11 and 12 left for a three-day CAS trip. The High School page explains the three diploma routes.
When lessons run past 15:10
The main school day ends at 15:10. A few timetables go on longer. In Grades 11 and 12, some IB classes continue from 15:15 to 16:00 on most days, one Grade 12 subject runs to 16:45 twice a week, and in Grades 7 to 10 one afternoon a week has an eighth lesson in the same slot, in most of those grades a lesson from the Polish programme. Families see each class timetable in the Community Zone, and the office answers questions about it.
After lessons
Clubs run every day once lessons end. In autumn 2026 the week looks like this:
- Monday: football for Grades 2 to 5, and football or frisbee for Grades 6 to 12. Younger children are collected from Dembego 18 that day.
- Tuesday: Art Club for Grades 1 to 8, tabletop games for Grades 4 to 12.
- Wednesday: tabletop games for Grades 1 to 6, art for Grades 4 to 10, programming for Grades 6 to 10.
- Thursday: the STEAM club for Grades 3 to 5, football for Grades 6 to 10, drama for Grades 6 to 12.
- Friday: Film Club for Grades 1 to 5.
Most clubs start at 15:15 or 15:30 and finish between 16:00 and 17:30. The list changes every year. Ask the office how to join, or see the times by grade on the after-school clubs page. For music, acting and the visual arts, the school also works with The Noise Makers, an arts academy, and families register with them directly.
At Dembego 12, after-school care runs until 17:00.
Lunch
Meals are cooked from scratch each day by Kuchnia z Klasą, and families either order and pay for them day by day in the iKuchnia panel or send food from home. Every day there is a meat dish and a vegetarian one. There is no pork. Special diets are arranged with the kitchen directly. For Grades 9 to 12, the rules for the lunch break are set by the school's Student Mobility and Safety Policy.
In October 2026, Grade 11 students ran a lunchtime football tournament for Grades 6 to 12 on the outdoor pitch, twice a week, refereed by the organisers with their own rulebook.
