International American School of Warsaw is preparing for the next stage of its development, with continued work across Kindergarten, Elementary School, Middle School and High School, as well as investment in sports grounds in Konstancin.
Founded in 1989, IAS is a private international school serving children from Kindergarten through Grade 12. The school is based in Warsaw’s Ursynów district, near Metro Kabaty, and has a community representing more than 40 nationalities.
Classes are limited to small classes, while the school reports an overall student to teacher ratio of approximately seven to one. Its educational model is based on individual attention and close cooperation between teachers, students and families.
Kindergarten and Elementary School
The Kindergarten programme combines structured learning with play, conversation, movement and practical activities.
Children begin developing early literacy and mathematical skills while also learning independence, cooperation and communication. The programme is designed to support academic, physical, emotional and social development.
In Elementary School, students build foundations in English, mathematics, science, social studies and other core areas. Art, music, physical education and project work are also included.
IAS places particular emphasis on critical thinking in the younger years. Students are encouraged to form ideas in their own words, solve problems step by step and develop confidence in their own judgment.
This approach also guides the school’s use of technology. Younger children focus on reading, handwriting, creativity and independent thought. From around age 13, students begin structured work with artificial intelligence under teacher guidance. They learn to evaluate accuracy, recognise limitations, check sources and use the technology responsibly rather than treating it as a replacement for their own work.
Middle School and IB MYP candidacy
IAS is currently developing its Middle School as a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme.
The MYP framework encourages inquiry, communication, critical thinking and connections between different areas of study. It is intended to help students become more independent while preparing them for the academic demands of High School.
IB candidate status represents a stage in the authorisation process and does not mean that final MYP authorisation has already been granted.
High School diploma pathways
High School students at IAS may follow the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, the American High School Diploma or the Polish Matura pathway.
IAS is an authorised IB World School for the Diploma Programme. Its American programme is accredited by Cognia, and the school also operates within the framework of the Polish Ministry of Education.
The three routes are intended to support students applying to universities in Poland, Europe, North America and other international destinations.
Support for relocating families
The school accepts applications throughout the academic year, depending on the availability of places. This allows IAS to work with families whose relocation dates do not follow the usual September school calendar.
English as an Additional Language support is available for students who require help developing classroom and academic English.
IAS also cooperates with companies, embassies and institutions supporting employees or diplomatic families moving to Warsaw. This may include coordinated admissions, transition support and education arrangements adapted to the needs of the organisation and its families.
Admissions for the 2026/2027 academic year are currently open.
Konstancin sports grounds
IAS is continuing to develop its sports grounds in Konstancin.
The site includes a field intended for football, physical education, outdoor activities and school events. The school plans to make wider use of the grounds during suitable periods of the academic year.
The Konstancin development is also part of the school’s longer term campus planning. IAS intends to develop the site progressively while continuing its educational work at its present Warsaw locations.
More than three decades in Warsaw
International American School of Warsaw has operated since 1989 and has developed from a small international school into a Kindergarten to Grade 12 institution with several graduation pathways.
Its current priorities include the development of the Middle School programme, age appropriate education concerning artificial intelligence, continued support for international families and improved sports facilities.
The school states that its growth will remain connected to its founding principle: students should receive personal attention and should be known as individuals throughout their education.
